Emissions
Tyres shed approximately six million tonnes of material per year and are widely recognized as a considerable source of vehicle emissions. There is increased scrutiny regarding tyre ingredients and their environmental impact, particularly compounds such as the preservative 6PPD, cited for depleting fish stocks. Regulation of the chemical composition of tyres is being led by authorities such as the California Environmental Protection Agency. A limit on tyre wear is likely to be included in Euro 7 legislation.
Sustainability
Over two billion tyres are manufactured every year. What opportunities are there to reduce the carbon footprint and environmental impact of a tyre from production to end-of-life? How can the tyre industry develop a sustainable sourcing system for raw materials and end-of-life recycling, to develop a true circular economic cycle? Are current regulations sufficient to encourage and protect a sustainable supply chain? Tyre manufacturing is an energy intensive process – what can be done to improve efficiency and decarbonize?
Collaboration
Industry and academia agree that challenges must be understood and tackled. There needs to be more collaboration, greater evidence-based dialogue and a clearer path towards the changes and standards required. Our agenda will welcome both industry experts and academia to share their research and perspectives. Bringing all parties together with a common goal – lower emissions and greater sustainability – so we believe that this conference can be a platform to support real progress.
